Sava Tekelija (English spelling)

1761‐1842
Yugoslav social worker. Although he was a lawyer, he dedicated his life to the liberation and civilization of the Serbian people in the Vojvodina region. In 1838, he established the Tekerianum Foundation in Buda (now Budapest) using his vast real estate holdings, and sent a total of 300 young people to university. The Foundation was managed by the local cultural organization Matica Srpska, but in 1878 the Serbian Orthodox Church took over, and it ceased operations after World War I. The extensive collection of books was moved to Novi Sad before World War II. [Tanaka Issei]

ユーゴスラビアの社会事業家。法律家であったが，ボイボディナ地方のセルビア人の解放･教化に一生を捧げた。1838年，莫大な不動産をもとにブダ(現，ブダペスト)に財団〈テケリアヌム〉を設立，大学へ延べ300人の青年を送った。財団の管理は当地の文化団体〈マティツァ･スルプスカ〉が当たったが，78年からはセルビア正教会が代わり，第1次大戦後に活動を停止した。豊富な蔵書は第2次大戦前ノビ･サドに移転された。【田中一生】
