A state on the Atlantic coast in the northeastern United States. Abbreviated as NJ. The southern part is a coastal plain, and the northern part is a hilly region with many moraines. The Delaware River flows along the western state border. Located near large cities, dairy farming and suburban agriculture are thriving, and potatoes, tomatoes, asparagus, and apples are produced in large quantities. Industries such as metals, petroleum, automobiles, shipbuilding, chemicals, and food processing are also thriving. Silica sand is produced. There are many resort cities on the Atlantic coast famous for their beaches. Settled by the Dutch in the 17th century, it came under British influence in 1664.
