Ecchu Shogun

...Yoshiki Ashikaga (Yoshitane Ashikaga), who was deposed as Shogun and imprisoned in the coup d'état by Masamoto Hosokawa in 1693 (Meiō 2), escaped in June of the same year and took refuge with Naganobu Jinbo in Hosotsu, where he planned to make a comeback and stayed until 1698. During this time, Yoshiki's Hosotsu residence was called the Etchū Imperial Residence and Yoshiki was called the Etchū Kubo. Many shogunate servants, magistrates and nobles also came to Hosotsu, and writers such as Sadayori Ise, Masayasu Asukai and Sogi also visited, making the place lively. After that, Nagamasa's son, Jinbo Yoshimune, fought against the allied forces of the three provinces of Echigo, Etchu, and Noto, led by Nagao Tamekage, and in 1519 (Eisho 16) Hosotsu was damaged in the war, and efforts were made to rebuild it after Tamekage left, but the following year Tamekage attacked again and Yoshimune was defeated and killed, and the reconstruction of Hosotsu was also thwarted.

…93年(明応2)細川政元のクーデタで将軍を廃され幽閉された足利義材（よしき）(足利義稙（よしたね）)は，同年6月に脱出して放生津の神保長誠（ながのぶ）のもとに拠り，再起を図って，98年まで滞在した。この間，義材の放生津御座所を越中御所，義材を越中公方と称し，放生津には幕府奉公衆や奉行人，さらに公家衆も多く下向し，また伊勢貞仍（さだより），飛鳥井雅康，宗祇らの文人も来訪，活況を呈した。そののち長誠の子神保慶宗は長尾為景を主力とする越後，越中，能登3ヵ国守護方同盟軍と対戦し，1519年(永正16)放生津は戦乱の被害をうけ，為景の退去とともに復興が図られたが，翌年為景の再攻で慶宗は敗死，放生津の再建も挫折した。…
