Born: September 28, 1886 in Shiga [Died] November 7, 1956. Tokyo. A Tibetan scholar who studied in Tibet under the rule of the 13th Dalai Lama (→ Thupten Gyatso). Selected by Otani Kozui, he studied in London. On his way back, he guided the Tibetan envoy Tsva Titul to Japan. From September 1912 to January 1916, he stayed at Drepung Monastery and the Pungkang family home in Lhasa. After returning to Japan, he wrote "Travels in Xizang" (1920). During World War II, he worked as a governor in the south, and after the war, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in information affairs for the Allied forces. From 1951 onwards, he taught Tibetan as a lecturer at the University of Tokyo, and in his later years he wrote "Study of Tibetan Chronicles".
