A form of journalism that was born in the United States in the 1960s. As a criticism of traditional journalism, which was dominated by publications from public institutions, this form of journalism aims to discover news on one's own, and provide more accurate facts and information based on thorough research. It is generally carried out by one journalist, not a group. Some criticize it as fiction, as it includes psychological descriptions of the subjects of the articles and reenactments of secret conversations. The fruits of new journalism include Gay Talese's Honor Thy Father (1971), which deals with the Mafia, Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff (1979), which depicts the training and real life of astronauts, D. Halberstam's The Best and the Brightest (1972), and B. Woodward and C. Bernstein's co-authored All the President's Men (1974). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
