Japanese Politics - Nihon Seiki

A comprehensive history of Japan written by Rai Sanyo. It was his last work, completed just before his death in 1832 (Tenpo 3), and is considered one of his most representative achievements. It is a chronological history written in Chinese from Emperor Jimmu to Emperor Goyozei, but it focuses on Sanyo's historical theory rather than on historical facts. It has 16 volumes. It was widely read and reprinted many times from 1838 to the early Meiji period, and commentaries and critical works were also published, exerting a wide ideological influence on the people at the end of the Edo period and during the Meiji period.

頼山陽(らいさんよう)が著した日本通史。1832年（天保3）山陽が病没の直前に完成した最後の著述であり、また山陽の代表的業績の一つとされている。神武(じんむ)天皇から後陽成(ごようぜい)天皇までの漢文の編年史であるが、史実の記述よりは山陽の史論が中心となっている。16巻。1838年から明治前期にかけてしばしば版を重ねてよく読まれ、また注釈書や批判書も出て、幕末・明治の国民に広く思想的影響を与えた。
