A manufacturer of cast and forged steel products, thick steel plates, industrial machinery, and weapons. A Mitsui group company (see Mitsui Zaibatsu). Founded in 1907 by Hokkaido Tanko Kisen, Armstrong of the UK, and Vickers. Formerly known for manufacturing armor plates and gun barrels, the company is still one of the world's leading manufacturers of large cast and forged steel and plastic machinery. It is also one of the top manufacturers of injection molding machines in Japan, and has recently been focusing on electronic products. Head office in Tokyo, factories in Muroran, Hiroshima, and elsewhere. Capital in 2011 was 19.6 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 212.9 billion yen. Sales breakdown for the fiscal year ending March 2011 (%) was 53% for materials and energy, 46% for industrial machinery, and 1 for real estate and others. Overseas sales ratio: 53%.
