Yamanashi [city] - Yamanashi
A city in central Yamanashi Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It is located to the east of Kofu City, occupying the northeastern part of the Kofu Basin and part of the Chichibu Mountains, with Mount Kokushigatake and Mount Kobushigatake rising at the northern end. The center of the city is Kusakabe, which developed as a post station on the Ome Kaido road, and Kanoiwa, a station-front settlement on the Chuo Main Line. The Karisaka Tunnel connects the city to Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. The city is known for its grape and peach cultivation and wine brewing, but in recent years it has been developed into residential areas and factories, and the electrical equipment industry has become popular. In the north, there is the Nishizawa Valley, known for its beautiful valley, and there are Seihakuji Temple, Kubo Hachiman Shrine, the scenic Sashideniso and Manriki Forests, and Iwashita Onsen. In March 2005, Makioka Town and Mitomi Village in Higashiyamanashi County were incorporated. The area is 289.80 km 2 . 36,832 people (2010).

山梨県中部の市。1954年市制。甲府市の東隣に位置し,甲府盆地北東部と秩父山地の一部を占め,北端に国師ヶ岳,甲武信ヶ岳(こぶしがたけ)がそびえる。中心は青梅街道の宿駅として発達した日下部(くさかべ)と中央本線の駅前集落加納岩(かのいわ)。埼玉県秩父市との間に雁坂トンネルが通じる。ブドウ・モモの栽培,ブドウ酒醸造が盛んな地であるが,近年は宅地化,工場化が進み,電気機器工業が盛んになっている。清白寺,窪八幡神社,景勝の差出ノ磯や万力(まんりき)林,岩下温泉など,北部には渓谷美で知られる西沢渓谷がある。2005年3月東山梨郡牧丘町,三富村を編入。289.80km2。3万6832人(2010)。
