The Shogunate's treasuries were located in the castles of Edo, Osaka, Nijo, Sunpu, and Kofu, and on Sado, but the most important ones were the Oku-kanzō and Hasuike-kanzō in Edo, and the Osaka treasury. The Oku-kanzō was apparently originally a cavernous storehouse beneath the castle tower, but it was destroyed in the Meireki fire (1657), and is thought to have been located beneath the castle tower afterwards.
