Indigo dyeing business Konya This refers to the indigo dyeing method. It was mentioned early in the Genpei Seisuiki, which states that "his head was tied to a tree in front of the eastern execution gate, and there was a dyer called Kongoro." His name also appears in various artisan poetry contests that were held in the Middle Ages. According to the Muromachi period Shogeikata Daimono-fu, the dyeing fees of an indigo dyer were "120 mon for asaki (light yellow), 150 mon for hiyamon, 300 mon for niue (heavy) kachinmashiri, and 800 or 1 kan for maki," which seems to have been cheaper than other dyeing methods. Many indigo dyeing methods were established in cities, but in the Middle Ages, some were given land within manors, and played a certain role in the feudal lord's economy.
