He was famous for his detailed classical prose style influenced by Ouyang Xiu, and was counted among the "Eight Great Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties." In the Qing dynasty, he was considered a model for the "Tongcheng School." His poetry was excellent in the classical style, but is not as highly regarded as his prose. He published the poetry and prose collection "Yuanfeng Ruizhao" (50 volumes) and the "Jinshi Lu" (500 volumes), a collection of seal carvings from ancient to modern times.
