Kitakyushu
The northern region of Kyushu. Generally refers to the five prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, and Oita. Northern Kyushu. → Southern Kyushu. A city in the northern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. A designated city. Established in 1963 by the merger of the five cities of Moji, Kokura, Tobata, Yahata, and Wakamatsu. Center of the Kitakyushu industrial area. Population 977,000 (2010).
[Additional information] The seven wards of Kitakyushu City : Tobata Ward, Kokurakita Ward, Kokuraminami Ward, Moji Ward, Yahatahigashi Ward, Yahatahigashi Ward, and Wakamatsu Ward.
