A general term for compounds represented by the general formula RR'NNO. Also called nitrosamine. A pale yellow oily liquid or solid obtained by reacting secondary amines with nitrous acid, insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.
Compounds that have a nitroso group -NO and an amino group -NH2 in one molecule are also collectively called nitrosamines. For example, p (para)-nitrosodimethylaniline, which is the nitrosated form of N , N -dimethylaniline, is an example.
