Located in Huangbao Town, Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, China, this is a representative celadon kiln in North China, and its works. The surrounding kilns that fire celadon in a similar style are also broadly considered to be of the Yaozhou kiln type. The kiln was opened during the Tang Dynasty, and celadon has been fired since around the Five Dynasties period. It is characterized by an olive green glaze color that is fired with a slightly oxidizing flame. It was most popular during the Northern Song Dynasty, when works with sharp, flowing carved and embossed patterns were fired on the underglaze base.
