Tricot (English spelling)

Japanese: トリコット（英語表記）tricot

This refers to warp knitted knitted fabrics. The origin of the word comes from the French word "tricot," which means knitted fabric. Weft knitted knitted fabric can be shaped and is stretchy, but it has the drawbacks of falling apart and unraveling endlessly when one end of the thread is pulled. In contrast, warp knitted knitted fabric used for tricot does not have these drawbacks, can be made into a relatively dense structure, and has a wide variety of designs, making it a high-quality product. Single tricot, one type of tricot, has a lightly brushed back using cotton or wool yarn. Ideal for scarves. Double tricot is thicker using two sets of warp threads, and is used for high-quality underwear, scarves, gloves, etc.

メリヤス製品のうちの経編みメリヤスのこと。語源は編物の意のフランス語トリコ tricot。緯編みメリヤスが，成型編みができて伸縮性があるものの，着くずれがしたり，糸の一端を引くとどこまでもほどけるという欠点があるのに対し，トリコットに使う経編みメリヤスにはこの欠点がなく，比較的緻密な組織をつくることができ，デザインも変化に富むので高級品とされている。トリコットのうち一重トリコットは綿糸や毛糸を用いて裏を軽く起毛している。マフラーなどに最適。ダブルトリコットは2組の経糸を使って厚みをもち，高級肌着やマフラー，手袋などに使われる。
