A goddess in Greek mythology. In Greek, she means "victory" and is the personification of that word. In Roman mythology, she is called Victōria. She is the daughter of Pallas, a Titan, and has sisters Zelos (competitive spirit), Kratos (power), and Bia (strength). When the Olympians fought against the Titans, her mother Styx took Nike and her children to ally with Zeus. Zeus was happy to let them stay in Olympus. Nike was often thought to be subservient to the goddess Athena, but it is also said that Nike was one of Athena's attributes. There were temples all over Greece. She is also depicted as a winged young goddess in art, and the statue excavated at Samothrace is particularly famous.
