An annual plant of the Asteraceae family. A naturalized plant native to North America. Also known as Solidago candida. The stems are 1-1.5m tall, square columnar, almost hairless, and purple-brown in color. The leaves are long-stalked, opposite, bifoliate, and compound with 3-5 leaflets, with a prominent midvein on the underside. In September and October, yellow flower heads are produced in cone-shaped cymes. The outer involucre is longer than the involucre, oblanceolate, and leaf-like, with multicellular hairs lining the edges. The achene is flattened, with two long thorns (pappus) with small downward-pointing spines on both shoulders, which often attach to clothing. The scientific name frondosa means "leaf-like" and is derived from the shape of the outer involucre.
