The hero of a legendary wife-fight. A beautiful girl who is said to have lived in Uhara District, Settsu (at the southern foot of Mt. Rokko in Hyogo Prefecture). Troubled by the marriage proposals of two men, Unai and Chinu, she threw herself into the Ikuta River, with the two men following her. Her story was sung about by Takahashi Mushimaro and Otomo no Yakamochi in the Manyoshu, and was the subject of the Yamato Monogatari, the Noh play Motomezuka, and Mori Ogai's Ikuta River.
