In 1656 (Meireki 2), Utsunomiya Domain's chief retainer Yamazaki Hanzo dug the Ichinohori irrigation canal, which draws water from the Kinugawa River, and rice paddies were opened up there. Even today, the proportion of cultivated land in the total area is high.
