Sabafugu (Mackerel pufferfish) - Lagocephalus lunaris

Japanese: サバフグ(鯖河豚) - サバフグ（英語表記）Lagocephalus lunaris

A marine fish of the Tetraodontiformes order, Tetraodontidae family (illustration). Widely distributed from the Tohoku region southwards, along the Korean Peninsula, China, the Philippines, the East Indies, and the coasts of Australia. Local names include kinpugu in Fukui and Kumamoto, ginpuku in Nagasaki and Kochi, and kanatofuku in Shimonoseki. The dorsal side of the body is bluish-brown, the ventral side silvery-white with no markings. The fins are pale yellow, with the anal fin especially pale. The caudal fin is concave, with white at both the top and bottom. There are prominent spiny scales on both the dorsal and ventral sides of the body. Total length is about 15 cm. Spawning season is around May, and the eggs are sticky and attached.

フグ目フグ科の海産魚（イラスト）。東北地方以南，朝鮮半島，中国，フィリピン，東インド諸島，オーストラリア沿海に広く分布。福井，熊本ではキンフグ，長崎，高知ではギンプク，下関でカナトフクなどの地方名がある。体の背側は青褐色，腹側は銀白色で斑紋はない。ひれは淡黄色であるが，しりびれはとくに淡色。尾びれは凹形で上下両端が白い。体の背腹両面に著しい棘鱗（きよくりん）がある。全長15cm程度。産卵期は5月前後で，卵は粘着性付着卵である。
