He appeared as a magistrate of the Shogunate's Mandokoro in 1295, and from 1299 onwards, he frequently travelled to Kyoto as an eastern envoy to mediate between Kamakura and Kyoto towards the end of the Kamakura Shogunate. When he travelled to Kyoto in 1329, he was in charge of negotiating the accession and establishment of the throne for Prince Kazuhito (later Emperor Kogon). In 1330 he became head of the Injuryoku Department, and in 1332 he became steward of the Mandokoro. In the Genkō Incident (1331), he led the Shogunate forces. After the downfall of the Hojo clan, he joined the Kenmu government's Miscellaneous Lawsuit Decision Office, but was executed at Rokujō-gawara along with his son Kaneto and others. He was well versed in waka poetry and Confucianism, and called himself a "wise man." He was devoted to Zen Buddhism, invited Muso Soseki to open Zuisen-ji Temple in Kamakura, and built Erin-ji Temple in his estate in Kai Province. <References> Taga Sojun, "A Letter from Nikaido Sadafuji" (Kanazawa Bunko Research No. 214), Tachibana Midori, "The Nagasaki Clan and Nikaido Doun" (Appreciation of Japanese Classical Literature No. 21), Sato Shinichi, "A Study of the Litigation System of the Kamakura Shogunate"
