Seasonal theme

Japanese:
Seasonal theme
A term used in renga, haikai, and haiku. A word indicating the season to be included in a hokku or haiku. Seasonal words, seasonal characters, seasonal words, seasonal words, seasonal titles, and seasonal themes are all roughly synonymous. The term seasonal theme began to be widely used after the Meiji period. The practice of including words of the season at the time of composition in the hokku of renga was gradually established from the early Kamakura period, and was established in the Muromachi period, and was also followed in haikai. The need for seasonal themes in hokku and haiku is due to the historical circumstances mentioned above, but it does not simply indicate the season, but also serves to make up for the lack of a 17-character poetic form and enrich the content of the haiku.
