...In 1947, the Tokyo University Cooperative Association published "Harukanaru Sanga Ni" (In the Far-Away Mountains and Rivers), a collection of memoirs by Tokyo University graduates who died in World War II, which caused a great sensation. They then published "Listen to the Voices of the Sea" (1949), a collection of memoirs by students who died in the war from all over the country. These publications served as the impetus for the founding of the Wadatsumi Society in 1950, and branches were established at universities around the country, operating as an anti-war and peace movement group run by students, but in 1958 it was dissolved due to conflict between the international and mainstream factions within the Japanese Communist Party. ...
