In the 1950s, FM Rogallo of the National Aeronautics and Aeronautics Administration (NACA) invented a glider with flexible triangular sail-like wings that could be easily folded and deployed for spacecraft recovery. It was not used for its original purpose, but in the late 1960s it was converted into a sport in which a man hangs from it and glides down a slope, and it became known as the Rogallo glider and spread to Europe and Japan in the 1970s. …
