A kingdom that rose and fell in the Wadai (Ouaddai) region of the eastern part of the Republic of Chad in Africa. In this region, non-Muslim Arab nomads had already formed a state in the 14th century. The ruling dynasty was the Tunjur dynasty, which traded slaves with Egypt via the Darb al-Arbaeen (meaning "40-day trade route"), which connected Egypt with Lake Chad. They also exacted food and labor from their subordinate Maba people (farmers), and thus the kingdom was established. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
