1880-1941 An educator from the Meiji to early Showa periods.
Born on December 5, 1880. Became an assistant professor at her alma mater, Tokyo Women's Higher Normal School (now Ochanomizu University), in 1915, and studied abroad in England the following year. Became a professor at the same school in 1915. In 1916, she founded the Nikaido Gymnastics School (the precursor to Japan Women's College of Physical Education), and worked to train women's physical education instructors. Died on July 17, 1941. Age 62. Born in Miyagi Prefecture.

明治13年12月5日生まれ。44年母校東京女高師(現お茶の水女子大)の助教授となり,翌年イギリスに留学。大正4年同校教授。11年二階堂体操塾(日本女子体育大の前身)を創設,女子の体育指導者の育成につとめた。昭和16年7月17日死去。62歳。宮城県出身。
