Nanda Dynasty - Nandacho (English spelling)

Nanda Dynasty - Nandacho (English spelling)

An ancient Indian dynasty. The first king, Mahapadma, took over the kingship of Magadha in the early 4th century BC, replacing the Shishunaga dynasty. As described as "the one who defeated all the Kshatriyas," he promoted the project of unifying Magadha and became the most powerful force in North India. When Alexander the Great invaded India in 327 BC, this dynasty reigned over the Ganges basin and boasted great wealth, with a military force of 200,000 infantry, 20,000 cavalry, 2,000 chariots, and 3,000 elephants. However, this dynasty was short-lived, being destroyed by Chandragupta of the Maurya dynasty in around 317 BC.
