Written by Imagawa Ryōshun (Sadayo), a military commander in the Muromachi period. Published in 1402 (Oei 9). Despite his great achievements as Kyushu Tandai, he was dismissed from his position by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1395 (Oei 2), and in 1402, his Shugo position in Suruga and Tono and his land were confiscated. Ryōshun wrote this in the later years of his life in despair. The purpose of the book is to convey to his descendants the accomplishments of the Imagawa clan since their forefathers, especially their loyalty to the Ashikaga Shogunate, and as a result, it also partially revised the descriptions in "Taiheiki". The title "Nan-Taiheiki" was probably given by a later author. The book specifically describes how the Imagawa clan, especially Ryōshun, were involved in the establishment and maintenance of the Muromachi Shogunate by the Shogunate from Ashikaga Takauji and Tadayoshi to Yoshimitsu. Ryotoshi wrote his work from the standpoint of advocating a government "for the benefit of all people" that incorporated Confucian political theory, making it an excellent book for looking at the political theories and views of the Shogun of the Muromachi period military commanders, as well as the morality of master and servant, historical theory, and family consciousness.
