The Japanese Pharmacopoeia name for hydrogen peroxide, a disinfectant and bleach. A colorless, transparent, weakly acidic aqueous solution containing 2.5-3.5% hydrogen peroxide. When it comes into contact with blood, pus, or tissue, it breaks down through the action of catalase, generating nascent oxygen and foaming. This nascent oxygen has bactericidal and bleaching effects. Its bactericidal action is weak. In addition to being used to disinfect wounds, it is diluted 2-10 times and used as a gargle. It has been used to bleach and disinfect paste products, but was banned due to its carcinogenicity. It is also used to fade hair and clean tools. It changes when exposed to light and is sensitive to heat, so store it in the dark and at 30°C or below.
