Narutaki waterfall

A district in Ukyo Ward, on the western outskirts of Kyoto City. It is located between Omuro to the east and Sagano to the west. The Omuro River, also known as the Narutaki River, runs through the center from northwest to southeast. During the Heian period, it was a place of purification rituals and was visited by many nobles. The place name is thought to come from the sound of the water from this mountain stream, and it was also known as Utamakura. Currently, it is an upscale residential area, and is home to the National Hospital Organization Utano Hospital. The Keifuku Electric Railway Kitano Line runs through the area.

京都市西郊、右京区の一地区。東は御室(おむろ)、西は嵯峨野(さがの)の間に位置する。中央を鳴滝川ともよばれる御室川が北西より南東に流れ、平安時代は禊(みそぎ)の場所で、多くの貴紳が訪れた。地名はこの渓流の水音によるものと考えられ、歌枕(うたまくら)としても知られた。現在は高級住宅地で、国立病院機構宇多野病院がある。京福電鉄北野線が通じる。
