A guild of foundries of temple bells, kettles, pots, etc. The kettle guild in Sanjo, Kyoto, is famous, and in the 16th century, it was active under the protection of the Imperial Court as a kugonin (official servant of the Kurodo-dokoro). There are also kettle guilds in Uzumasa, Kyoto. The Sanjo kettle guild was allowed to continue even when Toyotomi Hideyoshi abolished the various guilds. 梵鐘,釜,鍋などの鋳造業者の組合。京都三条の釜座が有名で,16世紀には蔵人所 (くろうどどころ) の供御人 (くごにん) として朝廷の保護を受けて活躍していた。このほか洛西の太秦 (うずまさ) にも釜座がみられる。三条釜座は豊臣秀吉による諸座廃止のときも,存続を許された。 (→座 )
