...Today, the main industry is agriculture, with rice, tobacco, and livestock farming, but many people move away from the area to earn money, and depopulation is a serious problem. At Kijiyama, on the border with Yuzawa City, kokeshi dolls are produced, a tradition that dates back to the early modern period. The multipurpose Minase Dam was completed in 1963 in the middle reaches of the Minase River.
