Natufian culture

Natufian culture
The Mesolithic culture of Palestine. It is found mainly along the Mediterranean coast of Israel and Syria and in the Jordan Valley, but recent research has confirmed that it extended to the southern desert and the Euphrates River area. In 1928, British archaeologist D. Garrod investigated the Shuqba Cave in the Wadi el-Natuf Valley northwest of Jerusalem, and named the Mesolithic culture he discovered, centered on microliths, the Natufian culture. It is believed that people of this period lived in caves and pit dwellings, engaged in hunting and fishing, and lived a life dependent on wild grains before agriculture. Some say that agriculture had already begun because grass fibers were found on the blades of sickles discovered, but this is doubted.
