Natu La (English spelling)

Japanese: ナトゥ･ラ[峠]（英語表記）Natu La

A pass on the border between Sikkim and Tibet in northeastern India. It is 4,310m above sea level and 24km east-northeast of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. It is on the main trade route between India and Tibet, and leads from Sikkim to the Chumbi Valley in Tibet. Many travelers used to enter Tibet through this pass. However, in 1879, the British completed a road to Jelep La Pass (4,374m) south of this pass as a route to Tibet, which became the shortest route between Kalimpong and the Chumbi Valley.

インド北東部，シッキムとチベットの境にある峠。標高4310m。シッキム州都ガントクGangtokの東北東24kmにある。インド･チベット間の主要交易路を結び，シッキムからチベットのチュンビ渓谷へ通じる。かつて多くの旅行家が，ここを通ってチベット入りをした。しかしイギリスは1879年チベットへの通路として，この峠の南にあるジェレップ･ラJelep La峠(4374m)への道を完成し，それがカリンポンとチュンビ渓谷を結ぶ最短路となった。
