Also written as tachibangyo, it is also called kirikumi dōrō, kumiage dōrō, or okoshi-e. It is a type of nishiki-e toy. Pieces with drawings of houses and people that can be cut out are pasted together with glue on a mount and assembled like a stage for a play. The completed pieces are displayed on a veranda with a lit candle behind them, making it a typical summer scene. It became popular in Edo and the three major cities from the end of the Kansei era (1789-1801). There are landscapes, but later it became common to use them for stage scenes, such as the tower gate in "The Battle of Kokusenya" and the mountain gate in "The Five Mountains of the Golden Gate." 立版行とも書き,切組灯籠(きりくみどうろう),組上げ灯籠,起し絵ともいう。錦絵の玩具の一種。切り抜けるように家屋,人物などを描いた物を,糊で貼り合わせ台紙上に組み立て,芝居の舞台面のように作る。完成した物を縁台の上などに背後にろうそくをともして飾る,夏の風物の一つ。寛政(1789‐1801)末期から江戸にはやり三都で行われた。風景物もあるが,のちには《国性爺合戦》の楼門や《金門五山桐》の山門など芝居の舞台面がもっぱらとなった。
