A positive displacement pump that uses rotors and gears to pump liquid. Depending on the shape and structure of the rotor, it can be classified into vane pumps, gear pumps, screw pumps, etc. Compared to reciprocating pumps, which are also positive displacement pumps, it does not require suction and discharge valves, has a relatively simple structure, and generally has little fluctuation in discharge volume. It is often used as a hydraulic pump because it is suitable for pumping lubricating liquids due to the large number of solid friction parts, and is suitable as a relatively low flow rate, high pressure pump. It is also widely used for transporting water, heavy oil, tar, gasoline, paint, etc.

回転子や歯車類で液体を送り出す形式の容積形ポンプ。回転子の形状、構造によって、ベーンポンプ、歯車ポンプ、ねじポンプなどに分類される。同じ容積形ポンプである往復ポンプと比べて、吸込み弁、吐出し弁が不要であり、構造が比較的簡単で、一般に吐出し量の変動が少ない。固体摩擦部が多いため潤滑性のある液体の圧送に適していること、および比較的低流量、高圧力のポンプとして適していることから油圧ポンプに多く利用されている。そのほか、水、重油、タール、ガソリン、塗料などの輸送に広く用いられている。
