Torigoe [village] - Torigoe

Japanese: 鳥越[村] - とりごえ

A village in Ishikawa County in southern Ishikawa Prefecture. Population 3,256 (1995). A mountain village on the west bank of the midstream Tedori River, with the Dainichi River, a tributary, flowing north through the center. A relatively wide area of lowland opens up along the river and has long been a rice-growing area, but in recent years part-time farming has been increasingly taking place there. On Shiroyama are the ruins of Torigoe Castle (history), the last stronghold of the Kaga Ikko Ikki uprising. The Tedori River Gorge in the east is included in Shishiku Tedori Prefectural Natural Park, and is home to Tedori Onsen and a ski resort. 石川県南部，石川郡の村。人口3256(1995)。手取川中流西岸の山村で，中央を支流の大日川が北流する。河川沿いには比較的広い低地が開け，古くからの米作地帯であるが，近年は兼業化が進んでいる。城山には加賀一向一揆最後の砦となった鳥越城跡(史)がある。東部の手取川峡谷は獅子吼（ししく）手取県立自然公園に含まれ，手取温泉やスキー場がある。大日川上流には大日川ダム(1967年竣工)がある。【上田雅子】
