Riccardo Drigo

1846‐1930
Italian composer and conductor. After receiving musical education in Padua and Venice, he traveled to Russia in 1878 and conducted opera in St. Petersburg. From 1886 he served as ballet conductor at the Imperial Theatre, and conducted the premieres of Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker". He returned to his home country in 1920 due to the revolution. He composed music for operas and ballets, but his most famous work is the ballet "Pagliacci" (premiered in 1900), and the serenade in the piece is known as "Drigo's Serenade".

イタリアの作曲家，指揮者。パドバおよびベネチアで音楽教育を受けた後，1878年ロシアに渡り，ペテルブルグでオペラを指揮。86年から宮廷劇場のバレエ指揮者をつとめ，チャイコフスキーの《眠れる森の美女》や《くるみ割り人形》の初演を指揮。1920年革命のために母国に戻る。オペラ，バレエ音楽を作曲したが，代表作はバレエ《道化芝居》(1900初演)で，同曲中のセレナードは《ドリゴのセレナード》の名で知られる。
