1846‐1930 Italian composer and conductor. After receiving musical education in Padua and Venice, he traveled to Russia in 1878 and conducted opera in St. Petersburg. From 1886 he served as ballet conductor at the Imperial Theatre, and conducted the premieres of Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker". He returned to his home country in 1920 due to the revolution. He composed music for operas and ballets, but his most famous work is the ballet "Pagliacci" (premiered in 1900), and the serenade in the piece is known as "Drigo's Serenade".
