A former town in Toyoura County, western Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is centered in the basin of the midstream of the Koya River, and the main settlement, Nishiichi, is a regional market town on the right bank of the river. It operates as an agricultural and forestry town. It has the dammed lake Toyoda Lake, Sekibashira Valley (a scenic spot and natural monument), Mt. Kuruson with Shuzenji Temple (a scenic spot), and the Koyagawa Genji firefly habitat (a natural monument).
