Aichi Prefecture's central city, occupying part of the Koromo Basin in the middle reaches of the Yahagi River and part of the Mino-Mikawa Plateau. It was incorporated as Koromo City in 1951 and renamed in 1959. The city center developed as a castle town during the Edo period. Since Toyota Motor Corporation's factory was established in 1937, it has rapidly developed into one of the leading industrial cities in the country. The value of manufactured goods shipped was 9,435.7 billion yen (2003), surpassing Nagoya City to rank first in the prefecture, with transportation equipment accounting for 90% of the total. Agriculture and forestry are also carried out in the mountainous area that occupies most of the eastern part of the prefecture. The city is served by the Meitetsu Toyota Line, Mikawa Line, Aichi Loop Line, Tobu Kyuryo Line (Linimo), Tomei Expressway, and Isewangan Expressway. There is the remains of the Sanage Kiln. In April 2005, the city was incorporated with the towns of Fujioka and Obara in Nishikamo District, and the towns of Asuke, Asahi, Inabu, and Shimoyama in Higashikamo District. ^918.32km2 . 421,487 people (2010).

愛知県中部，矢作(やはぎ)川中流の挙母(ころも)盆地と美濃三河高原の一部を占める市。1951年挙母市として市制，1959年改称。中心市街は江戸時代，城下町として発達。1937年トヨタ自動車の工場設置以来，全国有数の工業都市として急速に発展した。製造品出荷額は９兆4357億円（2003）を上げ，県内で名古屋市を抜いて１位，中でも輸送用機器工業が９割を占めている。東部の大半を占める山地では農林業も行う。名鉄豊田線・三河線，愛知環状鉄道，東部丘陵線（リニモ），東名高速道路，伊勢湾岸自動車道が通じる。猿投(さなげ)窯の窯跡がある。2005年４月西加茂郡藤岡町，小原村，東加茂郡足助町，旭町，稲武町，下山村を編入。918.32km²。42万1487人（2010）。
