Novels about lost events - Itsuji shosetsu (English)

Japanese: 佚事小説 - いつじしょうせつ（英語表記）yì shì xiǎo shuō

In China, a collection of anecdotes about famous people or records of detailed events not recorded in historical records. A representative work of this kind is the Shishuo Xinyu (New Tales of the World), written by King Liu Yiqing of Linchuan in the Southern Song Dynasty. It contains anecdotes about famous people from the Later Han to the Eastern Jin dynasties, categorized into 36 categories, including virtue, language, politics, literature, generosity, boldness, guilelessness, wisdom, revelation, frugality, valor, and infatuation. While the Shishuo Xinyu is a collection of anecdotes centered on people, the Guojibu (Compendium of National History) by Li Zhao of the Tang dynasty is a collection of anecdotes centered on events.

中国，有名人の逸話や史書に記載されないような細かな事跡を記録したもの，またはその集。この代表的作品として南朝宋の臨川王劉義慶の撰に成る《世説新語》を挙げることができる。それには後漢から東晋に及ぶまでの有名人の逸話を徳行･言語･政治･文学･雅量･豪爽･傷逝･賢媛･任誕･倹嗇･汰侈･惑溺など36門に分類して収載している。《世説新語》が人物を中心とする逸話集であるのに対して，事柄を中心とするものに唐の李肇（りちよう）の《国史補》がある。
