...A ship whose main purpose is to transport passengers. Also called a passenger ship. Legally, any ship that can accommodate more than 12 passengers is treated as a passenger ship and is subject to regulations regarding stability, life-saving equipment, and living facilities. Therefore, most cargo-passenger ships, ferries, and ferries are also passenger ships by law. However, passenger ships generally refer to huge, luxurious, high-speed passenger liners such as the Queen Mary (UK) and the Queen Elizabeth (UK). High-speed passenger liners were active on routes around the world for about 80 years from the 1880s to the 1950s, and especially on the Atlantic routes connecting Europe and America, the great powers of the time competed with each other by using excellent ships that represented their national prestige.
