Year of death: May 15, 12th year of Eikyo (June 14, 1440) Year of birth: 1400 A military commander in the Muromachi period. Son of Isshiki Mitsunori. First named Yoshinori. Served as Hyobu Shoyu, Sakyo no Daifu, and Shuri no Daifu. At the age of 10, he succeeded the position of Shugo of three provinces, Wakasa (Fukui Prefecture), Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture), and Tango (Kyoto Prefecture), after his father's death. He served as the head of the Samurai Department for seven years from 1414, and in 1419 was appointed commander-in-chief of the army to subjugate the Kitabatake clan in Ise (Mie Prefecture). His success in the central political world was due in large part to the support of senior vassals such as the Mikata and Nobunaga clans. In 1430, during the procession accompanying the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshinori's congratulations on his appointment as Udaisho (right general), he strongly desired to lead the vanguard, but this was not accepted and he was placed second. Yoshitsune considered this a "disgrace to his family" and did not participate on the day, claiming to be ill, and even indicated his readiness to fight and commit seppuku if the assassins came. In the end, he was not punished, and was subsequently appointed as the head of the Samurai Office, but in the 12th year of the same year, during a campaign in Yamato (Nara Prefecture), he was assassinated by Takeda Nobuhide, who received secret orders from Yoshinori. Although the position of Tango Shugo among his remaining territories was inherited by his nephew, Norichika, the influence of the Isshiki clan declined significantly thereafter.
