A German political party. It was founded on December 30, 1918, by merging with the Bremen Left and others. It joined the Comintern in 1919, and in January of the same year staged an armed uprising in Berlin, but it was suppressed, and Liebknecht and Luxemburg were arrested and massacred. However, in the following year, it merged with the Left of the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany, and its membership swelled from 50,000 to 350,000, making it the second largest branch in Comintern after the Russian Communist Party. Based on this expansion of the party, it organized the Hamburg Uprising in 1923, but was unable to succeed in the German Revolution. After Lenin's death, the left-wing and sectarian bias of Comintern prevented the party from strengthening its organization, and on February 27, 1933, the Nazis framed the party for the burning of the Reichstag, and the Hitler regime suppressed it completely, forcing it to go underground. After World War II, on April 21, 1946, the East German Communist Party merged with the Social Democratic Party to form the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), which became the ruling party. Meanwhile, in West Germany, the first conference was held on April 30, 1948, and the party retained its old name of KPD, electing a leadership team led by M. Reimann. In November 1952, the party adopted the "Platform for the Reunification of the German Nation." However, it was outlawed in 1953, and in 1956, the Federal Constitutional Court ruled the party unconstitutional. It was later founded as the German Communist Party (Deutsche Kommunistische Partei (DKP)) in October 1968, which approved the Basic Law of West Germany. In the aftermath of German unification in 1990, its activities have been sluggish.

ドイツの政党。 1916年ドイツ社会民主党より脱退した K.リープクネヒト，R.ルクセンブルクによって組織されたスパルタクス団を前身とし，18年 12月 30日ブレーメン左派らと合体して結成された。 19年コミンテルンに加入，同年1月ベルリンにおいて武装蜂起したが鎮圧され，リープクネヒトとルクセンブルクは捕われて虐殺された。しかし翌 20年にはドイツ独立社会民主党左派と合同し，党員は5万から一挙に 35万へとふくれあがり，コミンテルンにおいてロシア共産党に次ぐ大支部となった。こうした党の拡大を基礎に 23年ハンブルク蜂起を組織したが，ドイツ革命を成功させることはできなかった。その後レーニン死後のコミンテルンにおける左翼主義，セクト主義的偏向のなかで，党の組織的な強化を行うことができないまま，33年2月 27日ナチスによって国会焼打ちの罪をかぶせられ，ヒトラー政権による徹底的弾圧を受けて地下活動を余儀なくされるにいたった。第2次世界大戦後の 46年4月 21日，東ドイツの共産党は社会民主党と合同し，ドイツ社会主義統一党 SED (→民主社会党 ) を結成，支配政党となった。一方西ドイツでは 48年4月 30日第1回協議会で M.ライマンを先頭とする指導部を選出して旧来の KPDの名称を保持し，52年 11月「ドイツ民族再統一の綱領」を採択した。しかし 53年非合法化され，さらに 56年には連邦憲法裁判所により党組織違憲判決を受けた。その後 68年 10月西ドイツの基本法を承認するドイツ共産党 Deutsche Kommunistische Partei (DKP) として創設された。 90年のドイツ統一の余波を受けて活動は低迷している。
