A former town in Awa District, southern Chiba Prefecture. Facing the Uraga Channel, most of the area is hilly. The coast is suitable for swimming, and it is part of the Minamiboso Quasi-National Park. Rice, pear, and flower cultivation, as well as dairy farming, are thriving here. In March 2006, it merged with Awa District's Tomiura Town, Shirahama Town, Chikura Town, Maruyama Town, Wada Town, and Miyoshi Village to become a city, Minamiboso City. Area 40.34 km2 . 千葉県南部，安房(あわ)郡の旧町。浦賀水道に面し，大部分が丘陵地。海岸は海水浴に適し，南房総国定公園の一部。米，ナシ，花卉(かき)の栽培，酪農が盛ん。2006年３月，安房郡富浦町，白浜町，千倉町，丸山町，和田町，三芳村と合併し市制，南房総市となる。40.34km2。5986人（2003）。
