An old city in southern Saitama prefecture. Established as a city in 1972. Occupying the northeastern part of the Musashino Plateau, it was once a field crop region for sweet potatoes and other crops. From around 1960, the Kasumigaoka Housing Complex was constructed by the Public Corporation, and the area rapidly developed as a residential area on the outskirts of Tokyo. The Tobu Tojo Line runs through the area. In October 2005, it merged with Oi Town in Iruma County to become a city, Fujimino City. 6.81 km2 . Population: 54,045 (2003).
