Endorsement review - Uragaki haikensho

...The plaintiff personally delivers the endorsed and sealed guide to the home of the town or village official to whom the other party belongs. The other party, upon receiving it, hands the plaintiff a "hikensho" (hikensho endorsement, hikensho honourable approval) and prepares a reply and submits it to the magistrate's office together with the guide (if the other party refuses to accept the guide, they will be punished by being barred from the magistrate's office). On the date (sashibi) specified in the endorsement, both parties are to appear at the magistrate's office for a face-to-face hearing, but sometimes the case is settled before the sashibi date (hikensho settled during litigation, sashibi settled during endorsement)....
