Vasilii Konstantinovich Blyukher

1890‐1938
A military leader in the Soviet Union. He was an early participant in the revolutionary movement, and made a name for himself by leading the 51st Division during the October Revolution of 1917. From 1921 to 1922, he was the commander-in-chief of the Far Eastern Republic and Minister of War. From 1924 to 1927, he served as head of a military advisory group in Guangzhou, China, and cooperated with the National Revolutionary Army's Northern Expedition. From 1929 until his death in the Great Purge in 1938, he consistently held the position of commander of the Soviet Far Eastern Army, and in 1935 he became the Soviet Union's first marshal.
