1882‐1953 An illustrator born in Toulouse, France. He worked mainly in England and became a naturalized citizen in 1912. He first became famous for his fantastical illustrations for "Arabian Nights" (1907), and later painted subjects such as "The Tempest" (1908) and "Sleeping Beauty" (1910), and eventually became attracted to the style of Oriental painting. In his later years, he also designed postage stamps for both Britain and France, and, together with Rackham, was considered a representative artist in the illustrated book world of the early 20th century, known as the "Golden Age of Illustration."
