Tao River

Japanese: 洮河 - とうが

A river in China's Gansu Province. It originates on the northeast side of the Seijing Mountains on the border between the southwestern province and Qinghai Province, flows eastward, makes a large bend to the north near Min County in the southern province, and joins the Yellow River near Yongjing, southwest of Lanzhou. In the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in the upper reaches, yaks are grazing on the grasslands. Since June 1958, an artificial lake has been constructed between Gucheng and Min County in the southwestern province, as well as a canal with a total length of approximately 1,400 km, and the water of the Tao River has begun to be supplied to the Loess Plateau in the central and eastern parts of the province, where water is scarce. 中国，甘粛省の河川。省南西部と青海省の境の西傾山北東側に源を発して東流，省南部岷県付近で北へ大きく屈曲して流れ，蘭州南西の永靖付近で黄河に合流する。上流域の甘南チベット族自治州では，草原でヤクの放牧がみられる。1958年6月から省南西の古城と岷県の間の人造湖をはじめ全長約1400kmの運河などが建設され，水不足の省中･東部の黄土高原に洮河の水が供給されるようになった。【小野菊雄】
